We are presently recruiting to fill two (2) Summer Student employment positions for our Bridgewater and Liverpool offices


Information Resource Specialist “Summer Internship”

Primary Work Locations:
Bridgewater Office – 1 position
Liverpool Office – 1 position

These Summer Internship positions will provide meaningful work experience for students with goals of becoming employed in the field of Career Development Services. Students must be graduating from high school and entering post secondary in the fall of 2021, or be a student returning to post secondary education. Interns may be of any age, as long as you are a student enrolled in post-secondary education in the fall of 2021.

This opportunity may be of particular interest to students enrolled in human services, education, social work, social sciences or humanities programs, but is not limited to these areas of study.

Position Summary:

The Student Information Resource Specialist (IRS) will work closely with our team of Career Practitioners and our Information Resource staff to support the delivery of front end services to all clients’ while providing job search support under Youth Services during the summer months.

He/she will learn to help clients find the most relevant resources and guide them in developing the skills to use these resources. The IRS intern will gain knowledge and understanding of community resources, government programs and job search strategies to assess our clients’ needs and offer referrals to the appropriate resources and supports in a timely manner.

Responsibilities:

CLIENT SERVICE

• Greet and assist clients/suppliers/visitors to the organization in a professional and friendly manner
• Provide information on the support services available which can assist individuals and communities
• Gather and provide current and relevant career and employment information
• Determine the degree to which information and resources meet the needs of individuals and the communities in which they are located
• Supervise and monitor centre visitor’s while assisting with computer usage, including building resumes and cover letters, technology skills, internet resources and navigation, and completing both email and online applications

SUPERVISION

• Student Interns will be mentored and supervised by the Information Resource Specialist and report to the Operations Manager
• Industry training will be offered through the Nova Scotia Career Development Association and the Centre for Employment Innovation during the summer work placement
• Term 12 – 16 weeks beginning in May 2021 with possibility of an 8-week term beginning in June if required
